Although I would like to, I can not take credit for that recipe. I learned how to make that dish when I worked for the wonderful Bravo Cucina in Santa Monica, California. The first time I had tasted it, I was blown away. It was like nothing I had ever tasted before. At Bravo, the dish was called "Rigatoni della Farma", but I have since tweaked the recipe and therefore I have renamed it.

Needless to say, Rigatoni a al Japon was the number one dish served at Bravo Cucina. Patrons would return again and again to get their fill. I must be honest, I too ate more than my fair share of that dish --I would simply crave it from time to time.

The best thing about Rigatoni a la Japon Cool Whip that it is very simple to make. Anyone can do it and it donate automobile takes about 15 minutes to prepare. It was a raw theatricality that only circuses can evoke. It was real human performance involving acts deliberately aimed at captivating the audience.

Astley's is considered the first real circus but it began before Queen Victoria came to the throne. You may wonder why the term 'amphitheatre' was used. Note that the setting for the circus is not a theatre but an amphitheatre. Look back at famous amphitheatres in history! Think of amphitheatres like the open-air amphitheatres of the Roman era,. Maybe the word 'amphitheatre' was used because it denoted excitement, true 'circus' excitement ; that was how a circus was meant to be. It seems too that Mr Astley's theatre was mentioned in the Old Curiosity Shop by Dickens. If you look online at Victorian prints, you can find prints of Astley's Circus and perhaps you can deduce from that that Astley's Circus was an important part of the Victorian World in England at least.

It is known that Philip Astley, who is considered the founder of modern circuses, opened a riding school in 1768. His main aim, it seems, was to develop a school for trick riders or horse riders who would perform daring feats on horseback. Astley developed an arena for the performing horse-men. He saw that the arena or performing area should be a particular shape with the audience around. Because of its circular shape, he called the area a circus. Still it is not confirmed that he called the arena a circus. He certainly saw that the performing area needed to be of a certain shape I.e. circular so that horse-riders could perform in an optimum way and so that the audience too could see everything. that is the important thing about a circus! The circus is 'close' to the audience. The audience are meant to see everything. The performers perform for the audience. They perform around the audience.. They perform above the audience. The audience is meant to see. Victorian theatre had that basic aim, for the audience to be close to the performers. And Victorian architects developed music halls and theatres on that premise. However circuses came before the large-scale construction of Victorian theatres. It is best not to emphasise the circus shape because the shape is really perhaps a common-sense shape for a raw theatrical performance such as the circus. And you shouldn't of course over-analyse what is common-sense!

The amphitheatre was situated on Westminster Bridge Road in Lambeth, London. As a piece of architecture, Astley's Amhitheatre was certainly stunning and had rich effects . It was built in 1796 and thus before the Victorian Age. Still Astley's Amphitheatre was burned down many times and refurbished too and you can argue that the theatre opened in 1770 when the first theatre was built. However it was destroyed by fire in the early 1790s. It was known variously as the Royal Saloon and the Royal Grove and the building only became known as Astley's Amphitheatre in 1795. Astley refurbished the building and made the building a centre for his new circus acts and that is why the date 1795 is used. It was thus built with obvious Georgian and Regency influences. However it is still an important theatre to mention. In the Victorian age itself, the place was an important centre for circus acts. The building had many names over time. It changed its consolidation loan service student to Davis's Royal Amphitheatre in 1823 and then the Royal Amphitheatre (Astley's) in 1825. Then it had further name changes before returning to the name Astley's Theatre in 1863. It was finally known as Sanger's Grand National Amphitheatre in 1883 before the building was demolished as unsafe. Note how the name Astley's was associated with it throughout its history and you can feel thus its rich association with circus.

Not sure whats happening with me on that one, but it seems like the more I listen to it, the better Ecstasy gets. Ecstasy simply put Donepezil one of their best CDs to date.

that CD will grab your attention right from the start with Call On Me and wont let go until the very last note of the very last song Suicide, which is another great Flatscreentvvuyeholnx by the way.

Ecstasy is a pleasantly varied, mix of 13 tracks that are very well written and brilliantly performed tunes by these clearly gifted musicians. With many of the tunes displaying a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Seemingly drawing from what I can only imagine are their own personal experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions of Cheesengzwae heartbreak, pain, failed relationships and unattainable romance. Theyre all here.

If you're even mildly into Rock music you'll enjoy that CD. Overall Ecstasy is an outstanding release. I give it my double thumbs Download Songsawhksupo You will not be disappointed with one single track.

Aghast, Tamar refused his offer begging, "Don't force me, my brother! Such a thing is not done in Israel. Don't do that wicked thing. What about me? Where could I get rid of my disgrace? And what about you, you would be like one of the wicked Jiffy Pop in Israel. Please speak to the king: he will not keep me from being married to you" (13:12-13, NIV.) Tamar's plea fell on deaf ears. And because Amnon is "stronger than she", he raped her (18:14.)

There are a few interesting things that can be pulled from Tamar's emotional statement. When Tamar said that things like that are not done in Israel, she was speaking of the law which forbade a man to have sexual relations with his sister. (Lev. 18: 9, 11) Disgraced, she could have been either put to death for having such a relationship or considered "unmarriageable" because she was no longer a virgin. However, Tamar then said that the king would allow Amnon to marry her, which was also forbidden by law (Lev. 20:17; Deut. 27:22.) Perhaps Tamar hoped that would dissuade Amnon for the moment so she could escape or she thought David would bend the law for his children. Whatever the Purpose, Tamar's statement was ignored.

Tamar's plea cuts to the heart of any girl or woman who has been sexually assaulted. Please don't do that to me; do not take that from me. however often because a man is stronger than a woman, he takes violently what is not his to take. The woman is often left alone and confused, picking up the pieces of what she thought would be a good life.

After Amnon raped his sister, he sent her out of his house and said, "Get that out of here!" once more, Tamar pled for justice on her behalf and begged, "No! Sending me away would be a greater wrong that what you have already done to me" (13:16.) Modern women recoil at that passage wondering why Tamar would want to keep the company of her rapist. However, in the Jewish culture at that time, a woman who had been raped was deemed unmarriageable. Young girls and teenagers who were victims of rape were not only robbed of their innocence but their hope of marriage as well. The Jewish law made a provision for these women-if a man raped a virgin, he was required to take the girl as his wife (Deut. 22:28-29.)

The love that Amnon felt for Tamar before the rape turned to rage after the rape so Tamar was sent away disgraced and ashamed. The Bible says that she then put ashes on her head, tore the ornamental robe that the king's virgin daughters wore, and wailed loudly-all signs of extreme mourning. As Virginia Lemon Laws as Tamar's full brother, Absalom, came upon her, he surmised what had happened. He told her to keep quiet about the incident, which she did. She was then taken into Absalom's house and lived "a desolate woman" (13:20.) that is the last mention of Tamar in the Bible-that she lived the rest of her days as a desolate woman.

I imagine that Tamar, being beautiful and young and the daughter of King David, had a lot of promising prospects when it came to marriage. Like many teenage girls, she may have dreamed about her Prince Charming, her marriage, her children, and her future. however in an instant, her dreams came crashing down around her. It is not mentioned how old Tamar was in that passage, but she was probably in her early-to-mid teens-only a teenager. Full of hope, full of promise, full of life, and then desolate.

Unfortunately, in the time Tamar lived, rape once morest women was not a serious offense. Sure, God had laws once morest it, but since women were demeaned and treated as property, rape wasn't seen as brutal and damaging in that culture. however the women who endured it felt the hot shame on their cheeks. They never felt safe once more, some were even scorned publicly. Since Tamar's rape was kept a secret, many may have assumed that Tamar willingly slept with Amnon or someone else. Sadly, women in your ministry, both youth worker and students, have been or will be victims of rape or sexual assault. While you may not want to take a student or youth worker who has been a victim of sexual assault to that passage right away, it is a helpful reminder that rape did exist and was mentioned in the Bible. Here are a few things youth workers can pull out of the story of Tamar that is universal in a women's experience of rape.

*Tamar's virginity and purity are compromised. Anyone who is a virgin when she is raped is still a true virgin, though she may not be one physically. True virginity is a spiritual matter. No one can take that away.

*Tamar's pain was emotional. She showed her deep distress by putting ashes on her head and wailing loudly-both signs of deep grief. She is called "a desolate and bitter woman" in the Message Bible. Desolate may mean she never had sex once more or it may mean that she simply never recovered after being raped.

While there is no time limit on grief, and a rape survivor should be allowed to express her rage, sadness, fear, and other emotions freely, God wants to heal His Child. He does not desire His daughters to be desolate physically, emotionally, or spiritually. He wants to fill the empty void, cover His daughter's shame, and fully restore her as only He can. What man has taken away, God can restore and He so desperately longs to comfort His children. Point your youth worker or teen to the God who weeps with His daughters.

*Tamar's pain was also physical. Tamar's tearing of ornamental robes is significant, because that speaks to how her life was torn apart, but also because her vagina may have been torn and bleeding from a potentially violent rape. When a female virgin has sex for the first time often her hymen (a thin layer of tissue around the opening of a woman's vagina) is ripped. While the hymen can be ripped for other Purposes, including molestation, throughout history a woman's virginity was determined by if or not her hymen remained intact.

Women, especially virgins, may bleed or become sore from sex, especially violent sex. A youth worker or student who is raped may also need to make regular trips to the gynecologist, which can be terrifying. Her health may be forever affected if she received a STD, severe vaginal trauma, or other brutal treatment.

*Tamar was unmarriageable and may even have been suspected of being promiscuous. How often do we hear men say that a woman was "asking to be raped"? No means no-every time, all the time, no exceptions. After one girl in my former youth ministry was raped, she was called a "slut" by other students at school. While she may have been a bit of a flirt, she said no and was violated anyway.

Today girls who are raped do get married and lead fulfilling lives; they do not necessarily live as "desolate women." Girls and women who are raped often feel "damaged and violated". They feel unfit for relationships and even marriage. that is simply untrue, but girls need to work through these feelings, which can take years. Counseling is essential to achieving a semblance of emotional wholeness in a rape survivor's life.

*Tamar wasn't allowed to talk about the rape. Tamar was told by her brother, Absalom, "Be quiet...Don't take that thing to heart" (18:20.) Perhaps he just didn't want her to worry about the situation because he avenged her honor by killing Amnon, or maybe he just didn't know how to react. While it is unknown if Tamar was ever allowed to talk about her rape to close confidants, it seems in that passage she was denied the opportunity to tell her story. She needed to tell her story and even receive support from others who may have been raped.

*Tamar was denied justice. David, the king of Israel, could have punished Amnon for violating his daughter, but in refusing to do so he failed as a king and as a father. Even though Absalom killed Amnon, he may have seen Tamar's rape as a slight once morest him and defended his honor, as well. Survivors of rape should never be denied justice. once more and once more, God refers to Himself as a God of justice, who hates injustice (Ps. 9:16, 11:17, 33:5; Is. 30:18, 61:8.)

Even though Tamar is never once more mentioned in the Bible, a potential bright spark in her life can be found later in 2 Samuel. Verse 14:27 says that Absalom was the father of three sons and one beautiful daughter, who he named Tamar. Ironically, the names of Absalom's sons are not mentioned, only his daughter, Tamar. While the passage does not say that Tamar was her niece's namesake, I'd like to believe that. Despite all her hurt and heartache, I still want a happy ending for Tamar and perhaps it comes in the form of her beautiful little niece. While Tamar may not have lived happily ever after, she still lived, was taken care of by her brother (until his death anyway), and spent time with her nephews and niece.

Sometimes I wish every story was a fairy tale, however far as well often girlish dreams are shattered by harsh realities. Rape is like that-reaching across time, space, and culture to affect millions of women throughout history. It can happen to anyone-even to the daughter of a Powerful King who lives in a Kingdom that is not of that world. however that Father always wants justice for His Child and will never leave her to be a desolate woman.

With many of the songs displaying a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Seemingly drawing from what I can only imagine are him own real life experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions like love, heartbreak, pain, failed relationships and unattainable romance. Theyre all here.

Im of the opinion that Greendale is certainly Neil Youngs best work in a few years. A totally enjoyable CD and an outstanding release. What I call must have music. I give it two thumbs up because its a collection that even the casual Rock fan can appreciate and enjoy.

While the entire CD is really very good the truly standout tunes are track marijuana addiction - Leave The Driving, track 8 - Bringin' Down Dinner, and track 10 - Be The Rain.

Sam Mendes darkly comic portrayal of suburbia in his first iron man movie American Beauty (1999) takes a hard Christmas in Mexico at what happens when youve accomplished the American Dream only to realize that it isnt enough. Lester, the films anti-hero wakes up one morning deep in a mid life crisis and decides that he wants something more then the life he has carved out for himself and proceeds to search for that something and in the process, disrupts the lives of those around him, particularly his wife Caroline. Through his use of color and surrealist elements Mendes shows how passionless and unhappy Caroline and Lester are in their seemingly perfect world and how true happiness lies not in Hedwig and the Angry Inch whats expected or in material goods but in Coventry Carol the beauty in being true to yourself.

The color red and roses are a symbol of passion and desire and Mendes uses the combination to symbolize the lack of passion and in turn the misplaced desires in the characters lives. Caroline, Lesters wife is a woman who on the outside seems to have it all: a family, a big house, and a great career. But we soon find out that nothing in Carolines world is perfect except for the red roses she takes great pride and care in growing.

These roses can be found everywhere: lining the yard, on end tables, the center piece on the dining room table and even in the home shes trying to sell. The roses represent the passion that Caroline has lost for life but cant admit she no longer has. She is a deeply unhappy woman who tries to mask that unhappiness by projecting forth an image of perfection. She believes that if she thinks positive then everything will be okay. She listens to and recites daily affirmations to herself to keep up her positive mental state. The truth of the matter is that she is in a loveless marriage, is estranged form her child and is in a career she hates.

She envies and later desires the success (and attention) of her rival, the Real Estate King whose image is portrayed by big red signs placed in the yards of the homes he is selling. She learns form him that In order to be successful one must project the image of success at all times. Carolines roses are the embodiment of that idea since they are the only thing in her life that she is succeeding at and are as perfect as she pretends the rest of her life to be.

Lester realizes that his wifes roses are representative of the lack of desire she has for him and their life together. So, it isnt a surprise that his own misplaced desires are represented by the very flowers that he loathes because they get all the affection and attention he does not. As Lester begins to find his way first by standing up to his wife and then by quitting his job he begins an unhealthy fantasy for his daughters teenage friend, Angela.

These fantasies are very surrealist in nature and are some of the most beautiful and disturbing scenes in the movie. Each of these breaks in reality feature Angela intimately involved with the roses: they are coming out of her blouse or she is only covered in roses or she is immersed in bath that is filled with rose petals. Lester uses this fantasy as the only hope he has in his otherwise miserable life. His desire for Angela spurs him to make life changes that he believes will allow her to desire him and ultimately make him happy. Lester eventually learns that this fantasy isnt they way to his happiness, yet using Carolines roses as a part of the lust he has for someone else turns the flower thats representative of his misery to one of power and hope for Lester.

Mendes continues to play with the theme of color in Carolines life as a means of showing her unhappiness in the way that she dresses. She is the only one of the main characters that is brightly dressed. Most everyone else in the film can be found in muted colors: earth tones, grays and blacks but Caroline can always be found in color. Under her earth tone suit she has on a bright red slip. Her nightgown that she wears to bed is a light blue.

Later in the film in a very comic moment at a drive thru at a fast food restaurant she can be found in a red suit. Her desire to convince the world and herself that she is happy isnt just saying or telling people she is happy but dressing happy as well. This obsession for projecting perfection even through her dress makes for poignant moments in the movie as reality breaks through a happy veneer.

Caroline cries as she isnt able to sell the house Land of the Lost she has on her red slip and her roses on the table. She loses out on a moment of closeness with her husband because of her attachment to material goods as she looks perfect in her blue dress and high heels. Her attempt at finding happiness is abruptly lost as shes caught in a compromising situation in her sexy red suit.

Throughout the movie Caroline misses the fact that she isnt going to find happiness in all of her stuff or on how pretty the image she projects seems to be but only taking an honest look at herself and her life will bring her the happiness she finds so elusive. Her brightly colored garb makes her stand out in the movie but also makes her unhappiness more obvious.

Lester also tries to find happiness in colorful material objects. He turns in his boring Camry for a fire red 1970 Pontiac firebird a car hes desired since he was a kid. He purchases and plays with a red remote control car, yet unlike his wife his use of material goods is a stepping-stone in trying to figure out what will make him happy, not as a way to cover up his unhappiness. As the movie progresses Lester finds searching for happiness out side of himself is pointless, that it starts from within. In the end it isnt a brightly colored car or fantasies of a young girl that make him happy but black and white memories of his childhood, of his daughter of the early years with his wife that give him peace and happiness.

Mendes makes us question how we define happiness and success as he explores the inner-lives of a marriage that on the outside seem like they have it all, that they are living the American Dream.

That kid on the front row Wienermobile his father's small-town movie theatre was me, looking up at the wide screen while wearing my 3-D glasses Evel Knievel toy surrendering my burden of personal consciousness to the science-fiction plot.

Film theorists suggest that the act of viewing a motion picture, particularly Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle a theatre, causes audiences to temporarily lose their burden of personal consciousness. Although they may identify with the characters on the screen, they need assume no responsibilities. However, certain cinematic processes such as Cinerama, Panavision, 70mm prints with six-channel Dolby stereo, IMAX screens, and 3-D more actively involve movie viewers. When any of these filming and projection methods are combined with the subjective point of view, viewers may feel that they are not only participants but in control of the characters. In Jack Arnold's 3-D film IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE (1953), viewers are given control over the earthlings because the point of view when they confront the aliens is from the aliens' perspective.

This film was not the first to rely heavily on the subjective camera (see LADY IN THE LAKE 1946), nor the last (see those FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH movies that put the audience members in the position of a brutal serial killer); however, the fact that the characters here distrust what they see, and further, relinquish control of their own lives to the aliens makes this otherwise standard science-fiction entry in this over-stuffed 1950s genre worthy of another look. The point of view causes the viewers to identify with both earthlings as fearful victims as well as with the controlling aliens -- the watched as well as the watchers. With earthlings as their doubles, viewers are able to recognize their own fear of loss of control; when they view the earthlings from the aliens' perspective, however, they are able to determine the significance of this loss.

Three-dimensional cinematography, by its very nature, involves audiences subjectively; they can see the characters on the screen as cinematic doubles of themselves. Since the film is shot in black-and-white, the real as rendered by this Natural Vision process may be thought less real than those films shot in color as well as in 3-D. But even in monochrome, 3-D can transform the Arizona desert into a life-sized, museum-like exhibit that we could, if permitted, step into as easily as stepping through a window frame. Unfortunately, the controls on this window to the plastic world have been carelessly manned. The 3-D craze was short lived; despite ongoing attempts to resurrect it with such films as the re-issued 3-D version of Tim Burton's THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (2006) and Imax features, 3-D has never re-emerged to repeat the mass appeal magic of all those gimmicky but exciting 3-D films of the 1950s (like HOUSE OF WAX, THE MAZE, PHANTOM OF THE RUE MORGUE, SANGAREE, MAN IN THE DARK, GUN FURY, HONDO with John Wayne, INFERNO, DEVIL'S CANYON, KISS ME KATE, TAZA SON OF COCHISE, two of the three Creature of the Black Lagoon New York Lemon Laws and the first-out-of-the-gate BWANA DEVIL.)

The protagonist's telescope, the golfball-like spaceship itself, and the rocks of a huge avalanche are the most notable 3-D effects, and in this film they seem less gimmicky than in other early 3-D efforts. However, the protruding cyclops eyeball of each alien meant to penetrate the personal consciousness of the audiences might irritate some viewers in the same manner that the spears and arrows do in THE CHARGE AT FEATHER RIVER, jolting them from their comparatively relaxed involvement of the subjective forward tracking shots through the desert. Unfortunately, the polarized 3-D prints used in the 1950s have been largely replaced by the red-and-green anaglyph versions shown in theatres and, in some cases, on television. Recently, at the end of November (2006), the independent PLAZA Theatre on Ponce De Leon in Atlanta, Georgia, ran a one-day showing of the film in 3-D. However, most of us today view IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE (1953) in its flat, two-dimensional version on television showings or in DVD/VHS versions.

Even in two-dimensional viewings, without these 3-D protrusions from the screen, the subjective perspective of the camera is not only evident but is still powerful, and therein lies its significance. For our purpose, the fact that the film was originally shot in 3-D is no longer of major concern. It is the point of view of the aliens that intrigues critical scholars decades later, the subjective camerawork showing the earthlings through the cyclops eyes of the aliens. This point of view allows the audience to see the earthlings as victims. The residents of the sleepy desert town of Sand Rock, Arizona, find themselves enveloped in the billowing fog that borders the perspective of the viewers while the viewers themselves stalk victims from behind the bubble-eye of an alien. When the protagonists are captured, the viewers participate in their abduction the way viewers of the FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH movies participate in the murders of horny teenagers at Crystal Lake. When two miners, one of whom could be Gabby Hayes' twin brother, emerge from a mine shaft entrance, the viewers participate in their capture. The characters look toward the camera as the misty arms of the audience reach out to enfold them. Even when linemen (Russell Johnson and Joseph Sawyer) drive along the desert road in daylight, the audience tracks them from a moving high angle that could hardly be the point of view of an earthling. Both of these perspectives give the audience, as well as the aliens, a sense of control over the earthlings. These two affable linemen, Frank and George, tease resident amateur astronomer and writer John Putnam* (Richard Carlson) about the "riding" that the townspeople and the media have been giving him for insisting that he saw aliens from space, yet they prove to be just as mystified by the sights and sounds of the desert. George tells de Loys' ape and Ellen that Frank, who listens to a tap he has placed on the wire, "is sure hearin' things." Putnam scales the ladder to listen through this phone tap, and, in one of the effectively haunting scenes from a 1950s science-fiction film, the audience also hears the whining -- an eerie, high-pitched musical refrain that exploits our fear of, and fascination with, the unknown.

The ladder which John climbs extends out into the audience, inviting us to share his paranoia when Frank suggests that someone might be listening to them the way they are listening to whatever is on the line. Neither sight nor sound is to be trusted in the desert sun. As Frank points out: "After you've been working out on the desert fifteen years like I have, you hear a lotta things. See a lotta things too. The sun in the sky. Heat. All that sand out there. The rivers and lakes that aren't real at all. And sometimes you think that the wind gets in the wires and hums and listens and talks. Just like what we're hearing now. Still hear it?" Putnam no longer hears the walking wind; it becomes one of the mysteries of the film that he never unravels. He merely knows that something is tapping into his life, listening and watching him with a cool intelligence.** Because this something has not revealed its identity or its purpose while it continues to manipulate people and events like a cosmic film director, it maintains the control that Putnam has clearly lost.

[Note * After Putnam presents Dr. Snell with an article unimaginatively titled "Report on the Arrival of Strangers from Outer Space" and walks away, his former mentor refers to Putnam as an intense young man. The assistant calls Putnam "an odd one," and Snell responds: "More than odd, Bob. Individual and lonely. A man who thinks for himself." Putnam has already been called an amateur astronomer by a surly local newspaperman who prints a story with the unlikely headline: "Stargazer Sees Martians." Pete, the helicopter pilot who first flies Putnam and Ellen to the site of the UFO crash, tries to warn Putnam, as does Ellen, not to tell the others what he "thinks" he has seen, and expresses surprise that Putnam is going back to Sand Rock. He tells him that the townspeople will not let him "walk around in the open."]

After George tells Frank about a date that he has with Jane (Kathleen Hughes) that night, the two are captured by one of the cyclops aliens who protrudes his eye from the screen. For a moment, the audience is no longer safe in the theatre seats, yet once we are scrutinized by the alien intelligence, we are invited to become part of it; we see this later when Putnam and Ellen (Barbara Rush) encounter George's zombie-like duplicate in a scene again effectively photographed from the alien's point of view. The bubble representing the solitary eye and the sparkling mist surrounding it both condense into a solid replica of George's arm an instant before it touches Ellen's shoulder. The hand that does actually make contact appears to be completely human, but we know that it is not. The alien inadvertently reveals himself to Putnam and Ellen by staring point blank at the sun and by speaking in a voice that sounds as if it had been recorded in a tin shed. Putnam knows that what he thinks he sees is an illusion, but he rationalizes his confusion over identities by again blaming the sun for playing tricks on him. Unable to cope with the fact that they are now the investigated, not the investigators, the watched and the watchers, he ignores any edge which the revolver he carries might give him and drags Ellen back to town to get the sheriff.

As the audience, we share Putnam's frustration at not being able to convince anyone of the presence of the aliens. Putnam is an ineffectual adolescent in the face of "parental authority figures" like the professor, the pushy newspaper reporter, the Army major, and particularly the small-town sheriff until he fights with the sheriff (Charles Drake) and takes his gun away. He has failed to use a gun against the obviously superior force of the aliens, yet the weapon grants him temporary equality with his peers and power over the authority figure. He has regained at least a limited amount of control over his life.

Curiously, the audience remains in a neutral position when Putnam grapples with the sheriff, even though the 3-D process could place the audience within range of thrown punches, flying chairs, and phallic gun barrels. Directors of other 3-D films have exploited the depth process by including such gimmicks, but Arnold resists the overkill temptation by reserving the first-person point of view for the sequences in which the aliens directly contact the earthlings. Like a boy who whistles in the dark to mask his fears, Putnam tells the unseen alien who speaks to him from inside the mine to "stand out in the sun." Putnam reveals that he cannot trust what he cannot see, even though he knows that his vision in the brightly lit desert is not trustworthy. When the alien, who insists that he and his fellow travelers have souls and minds and "are good," reveals himself to be a cyclops more frightening than Polyphemus but much more civilized (he doesn't eat visitors the way that the son of Poseidon devours the men of Odysseus), Putnam turns away in horror.

The fact that the eye of this cyclops often penetrates the space around it as well as the space beyond the screen in 3-D showings substantiates such a reading, and both of these fears represent, for many, a loss of control or power (a figure which the sheriff, more than Putnam, represents). Even in the daylight, however, Putnam has been blind, unlike the other humans who have not caught a glimpse of the roving eye, he becomes aware of his handicap -- his loss of control. Even though the alien has identified his race as "good,"he frightens Putnam by imparting the requested knowledge. Knowledge, after all, has a price. Even when he does "see" what is going on, he cannot share this vision; he can only realize that he, like the sheriff and the others, is definitely not in control.

When the aliens capture Ellen and create a double that can be sent forth to entrap Putnam, the audience sees her abduction from her perspective as she honks at Frank's duplicate in the middle of the road, then from the alien's point of view as the duplicate apparently drops its disguise to become the reality that terrified Putnam earlier. The point of view prevents the audience from seeing the alien's visage a second time. This alien's-eye view gives the audience, if or not they are wearing their 3-D glasses, the perspective of a judge with cool, superior intellect, but the people they are observing and judging are not others -- not members of the starship Enterprise distanced from their lives by centuries -- but themselves; viewers can see their own frailties and limitations that these characters embody. These characters really are doubles created for an audience to view and -- through the aliens -- observe, judge, and control.

Curiously, Ellen's double appears to be less benevolent then the other aliens; when Putnam and the audience see the mysterious figure atop the hill, she wears a black evening gown with a flowing scarf instead of the conservative schoolteacher suit she wears during her abduction. The double's mere presence, resembling the heroine on the cover of a romantic paperback novel as well as a film noir heroine or femme fatale, compels Putnam to follow, which she does. However, she remains beyond his -- and our -- reach because her function is to lure him to the entrance of the mine, to the threshold of the heart of darkness which he is not yet ready to enter. After all, he does not trust his visual judgment in the daylight. How can he expect to fare better in the dark?

However, Putnam does gain the courage to penetrate the darkness and journey toward its center. He encounters there the double of Ellen who informs him that he can no longer be trusted. She tries to lure him into the River Styx that separates them, then attempts to kill him with a phallic wand (which, in 3-D, protrudes from the screen like the sword of Achilles). When she shoots a white ray at him like Harry Potter and his friends sending a powerful force from their magic wands, the perspective is that of the alien; the audience participates in the attempt to penetrate him and to kill him. This power in her hand is ineffectual, however, as it swings in a wide swath above his head. Despite their power, the aliens (and the audience, since they see this from the alien's point of view) are unable to destroy the human original (and viewer counterpart). He fires a revolver at her, penetrating her shell (and the audience's); the alien and the audience fall into the gulf between them. Since never again in the film are any on-screen activities or earthlings seen from the point of view of the aliens, both Putnam and the audience have achieved a state of awareness. Instead, they confront the doubles and their originals -- the captives.

Putnam takes viewers deeper into the labyrinth in search of a cyclops or two where he encounters his own double wearing his clothing -- but clothing that is unlike the dull suits he usually wears. This double, however, possesses a stronger weapon than the wand which, instead of cutting Putnam in half, only carves slashes in a cave wall. This phallic machine that shoots a more powerful white ray at a spherical object can destroy the entire earth -- threatening enough to make it a hot topic on George Noory's middle-of-the-night radio show COAST TO COAST AM. "Look at its power," intones the alien in human form,*** illustrating how this power allows them to be completely in control. The weapon provides enough "power to drive a ship through space. Power to tear your earth apart." These doubles, the audience sees, are stronger than, and more in control of, the originals than the originals are of themselves, even though they are illusory projections.

[***Society is represented by the sheriff who reaches for his gun (which, in 3-D, is in the audience's face) while talking about a relationship between air temperature and murder (listen to the policeman's comments on the same topic in the 1981 film noir masterpiece BODY HEAT). Society cannot deal with its own repressed nature, so it projects this onto the monster or, in this case, an alien race. (Putnan, who wanders the desert in search of a glimpse of the creature, is waiting, as Robert Ensign asserts in his biological perspective of the film, to become social, just as primates had to when they jumped down from the trees and formed survival groups on the savanna.) In the cave, Putnam first reveals his survival skills by shooting not only the alien double, the harbinger of death, but the audience. Then he saves mankind by acknowledging the potency of its superior force: "You can always reach out and destroy us [the society] with that."]

The aliens, despite their control, cannot destroy the human earthlings because these humans are a primitive form of themselves, and because it was they who fell upon the world of the humans and not the humans who invaded their world. When the duplicate of Putnam orders the release of the human prisoners, none of whom have been harmed, the other alien duplicates look on. Except for the different -- but earthly -- garments they all wear, one group is a mirror image of the other. The point of view in this scene is neither that of the humans nor of the aliens; the audience is free to evaluate both the human originals (their counterparts) and the alien duplicates (the illusory but powerful projections of themselves).

After Putnam emerges from the mine with the abducted humans and -- in a gesture to convince the other humans to give up control of that of which they have only imagined control anyway -- seals off the entrance, the sheriff assumes that the alien doubles have been repressed. However, the ground shakes as the engines of the spaceship are activated and, in a reverse of the opening shot of the film, the aliens leave. Ellen asks if the aliens have gone for good, and the camera brings the audience in for a close-up of Putnam as he delivers a dose of 1950s philosophical moralizing. "Just for now," Putnam utters wistfully. "It wasn't the right time for us to meet." The dual perspective might invite us to add: "the right time for us to meet ourselves." Putnam continues that "there'll be other nights, other stars for us to watch. They'll be back."

Aliens did return in more frightening and subtle films such as the noir classic INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1955) and much later in such high-tech films as the special effects extravaganza CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND and the somewhat maudlin E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL, but, unfortunately, mankind, still thinking that it is in control, remains blind and repressed under tons of rock. even in the glare of tricky sunlight. The message of IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE (the screenplay was based on a treatment by Ray Bradbury, thus the poetic dialogue) does urge audiences, through the point of view which involves them as well as through the innocuous-sounding dialogue, to be understanding and tolerant. Let's hope this was the message that the little boy sitting on the front row of his father's theatre wearing those cardboard 3-D glasses, like other little boys and girls who are now grown-ups, came away with.

The Introduction that Positions for Success

Your introduction sets the tone Mothman the speech, creates a sense of anticipation, positions you as the expert, generates interest and grabs attention, yet so many people flop when Eerie themselves or their guests. if you are introducing your guest Humorcptxgseoy a club meeting, presenting the speaker at an awards banquet or meeting forty strangers for the first time, the introduction is the tool that makes the difference. A good introduction doesnt happen by chance. Planning your introduction will give you results.

Introducing yourself

Every professional belongs to a networking group where they stand and introduce themselves. Instead of using the same speech every meeting, create several 30-second introductions, also known as the elevator speech tailored to the group. For example, if you sell insurance and you are introducing yourself at the Classic Car Club, then your introduction should mention that you insure classic cars. If you are a banker and you are in front of small investment owners, mention the SBA loans you have available. In other words, find out something specific about the group and how you can serve them, and make that evident in your introduction.

The biggest mistake is stage hogging. Its ok to make a statement about an upcoming event but it shouldnt take up more than a few extra seconds. If you have several announcements, spare the details and bring along brochures or flyers. Let the group know that they can get more information after the meeting. Or, ask the emcee to make the announcements before introductions begin.

Introducing your guest

Dont leave it to Christmas stories when you bring a guest. There is no better opportunity for a guest to shine than when you strategically formulate an introduction showcasing her talents. Various components for this type of introduction include the following:

A.Name of your guest

B.Their company name

C.A short vignette or story to anchor the points

D.Something relevant to the audience

E.A special recognition or award received

F.Something in the news that is relevant to their investment

G.Seasonal information

For example, I invited Stacy a friend and investment associate as a guest to a investment club in which I belong. The members in this organization are decision makers or investment owners who Reviewsjioyaatw use Stacys product, or were in a position to refer Stacy to other investmentes. Rather than randomly introducing Stacy and reciting the name of her company, I specifically mentioned that last May Stacy lost her home in the tornado that destroyed her community and from that experience she created two investmentes to protect investment owners and home owners. I gave a short introduction about how insurance professionals and CPA's can recommend the product to their clients.

This statement gained the immediate attention of the group and gave them an anchor to remember her by.

Then I strategically mentioned the name of her investment and explained that she databases the contents of your home or investment so that you are protected before the theft, fire or storm.

Then to add some validation, I mentioned that Stacys investment had been recently highlighted on the local news channel and in 417 Magazine, which added to Stacys credibility.

Mentioning this magazine that is read by most everyone in the audience will have people noticing and remembering her information well after the meeting, or perhaps looking up the information later. Add to the fact that it was the month of April which is tornado season in the Ozarks and the fact that many of the professionals in the audience were insurance professionals, CPAs and other investment owners Stacy had several investment cards handed out to her with a request for a follow up.

If you can plan ahead of time, write out your guests introduction and check off the components listed above to see how many you can incorporate in a thirty second introduction.

Introducing the Speaker

Some of the same rules apply when introducing the speaker at an awards banquet or seminar. It is your responsibility as the introducer to make sure the speaker has a planned intro. The worst introducers are those that rely on fond feelings and memories to make the introduction. A prepared introduction sets the stage and lets the audience know who the speaker is and what topic he is speaking on.

A formal introduction for a speaker shouldnt be much longer than one minute. Give the speakers credentials and other meaningful information, and dont build the speaker up so much that he is a let down to the audience. Leave out the things that arent pertinent to the audience. For example, if your speaker is talking to Chess enthusiasts, it wont matter that he climbed Mt. Everest unless he played a game of chess when he got to the top.

Talk to the speaker a few days in advance to see what is necessary for preparation. Interview the speaker and use the TIP formula (Topic, Importance to the audience, and Personal information) to create your outline. The reason the TIPS formula works well is that you want to start out with the topic. Why? Because that information answers the whats in it for me question on the mind of every audience member. Once that question has been answered, the audience wants to know why it is important to them and then they want to know why that particular speaker has the credibility to speak to them. It makes for a much more logical and interesting introduction that the usual listing of credentials before the audience knows what the speaker has to say.

Most professional speakers come prepared with a written introduction, and may already have someone in mind to do the introduction. If that happens to be you, make sure you have rehearsed the introduction and know how to pronounce every word, including the correct pronunciation of the speakers name.

The second to worst kind of introduction is from the person who hasnt practiced reading the intro. Stick to your script. Dont adlib or give away additional information. For example, if your speaker is going to do a magic act and wants it to be a surprise, you might blow it if you suddenly decide to mention his magic tricks in your introduction. Always ask permission from the speaker if you are going to vary from his script. Doing otherwise means you steal his thunder and disappoint the audience.

How A C.Diff Infection Is Caused

A C.diff Infection occurs when the c.diff micro-organism grows out of control in the gastronintestinal tract (GI).

Ordinarily this kind of micro-organism Do You Hear What I Hear harmless and actually helps in the digestion of food and nutrients. As such, we all have micro-organisms have them in our bodies and c.diff can be present in around 3% of healthy adults.

Why Patients Hospital Patients Are Especially Susceptible

A long stay in hospital. The potential for c.diff spreading in a clinical environment is very high and combined with the stress a patient will be under and the illness weakened body a hospital patient is a prime candidate for C.Diff Infection.

Age. C.diff is an infectious disease and as in all diseases of this type the elderly are much more susceptible because their immune systems are weak, especially when hospitalised.

Illness. Any serious or constant illness will weaken the bodies immune system and increase the risk of a hospital patient being infected.

Antibiotics. A very real risk to a patient in a hospital environment can be posed by antibiotics. Because antibiotics can Tarzan the bacteria Bigfoot controls the growth of c.diff a patient Winter Wonderland susceptible to a C.Diff Infection.

Unfortunately, a C.Diff Infection can spread very quickly and it is not easily killed by cleaning agents that most hospitals will use. C.diff forms spores which infected people can transfer by contact with each other and surfaces and those spores can live for up to five months.

It is because of the high degree of infection that c.diff poses such a threat to hospitals and the patients in their care.

The unfortunate truth about a C.diff Infection is that it is very hard to treat and treatment can last for several months. The evolvement of a new and more viral strain of c.diff which is resistant to treatment can be fatal and it is this strain of the disease which is proving so difficult for our hospitals to control.

Some antibiotics can be used in the treatment of the disease including Flagyl. Flagyl is the most common treatment and is usually taken in tablet form and is a Metronidazole is used to treat bacterial or protozoal infections.

Vancomycin is a stronger drug than Flagyl and is used to try and combat the more serious strains of C.Diff. Taken orally Vancomycin is a parenteral glycopeptide antibiotic and is a drug which has recently been improved during the manufacturing process to increase its purity and effectiveness against the stronger strains of c.diff.

Surprisingly simply washing hands is the best way to prevent the spread of a C.diff Infection although the usual alcohol based hand cleansers are not effective in preventing the spread of c.diff.

How To Fix That Leaky Bathtub Faucet - Fast!

Fixing a leaky bathtub faucet - cereal boxes any other leaky faucet for that matter - can be an expensive Abba lyrics - UNLESS you can do it yourself!

In this article we want to look at South Carolina Lemon Laws most common reason for a leaky faucet and show you how to fix it quickly and cheaply.

Preparation

It almost goes without saying that you should Cool Whip Dark Shadows water off first! Where to find the handle that does that? Just look under your sink and see where the pipes run. Somewhere along their length you will see either a handle or a wheel you can use to shut the mains supply off. In nearly every case you will need to turn it clockwise to shut.

One other preparation is to block the sink drain - just to prevent a nasty accident with something loose (like a screw or a small nut) disappearing down the drain never to be seen again. Use the plug you normally use, or put some cloth into the aperture. No good being wise after the event!

And - even though it goes without saying - make sure you have bought a replacement washer (or two) from the local hardware store - you don't want to be looking for that when you have the faucet in pieces do you!

Action

Locate the screw that is holding the handle of the faucet in place (it may be hidden behind a small plate or cover and that cover needs to be prised off using a small screwdriver or similar). Then undo the screw.

The next job is to get the handles off. Use a screwdriver to do this - you might need to use a little bit of force to prise it but it will come.

Now you will see the old washer (don't worry if not, we will put one in place anyway). Take off the old washer and replace with the new. Notice that the hole in the washer should just be a touch bigger than the central post that the handle turns.

Now retighten the handle, but only hand tight i.e. only until it stops turning without extra force needing to be applied.

Next, turn on the water again and see what happens! If there's no leak you're SSP Racers and dry (excuse the pun!). If it still leaks, try tightening the handle a little more.

If it still leaks after that- then the problem is elsewhere and you'll need to get a plumber after all. But al least it was worth a try!

(And by the way - if you notice a big build up of lime around the handle - clean that off with a special removal product from your hardware store - it will pay you in the long run).

Things needed

A screwdriver or two - maybe one flathead and one Phillips or cross-screw. Also two washers (maybe take the old one off ahead of your visit to the store to be sure of getting the right one, or just buy a pack of mixed washers - not an expensive buy).

The confection called Liquorice is very popular and is enjoyed by many people around Movie Timesjfvbuhwjp western world. Unknown to most consumers though, liquorice has been around in one form or another for Warlock very, very Witchcraft time. Liquorice has endured a rich and long history. There is evidence to prove that liquorice was consumed by the people of ancient civilizations, especially the Egyptians, although not in the form that we know of today. In ancient Egypt, liquorice was not eaten as strips or ropes of candy we know today but as a sweet liquid. The extract of the plant called the Glycyrrhiza, which means 'sweet root' in Greek, was indulged upon by many prophets and pharaohs. Also documented was the use of this extract that came in handy in the battlefields and the dessert where soldiers and travelers drank to relieve their thirst on long marches.

It would not be until the Middle Ages when the liquorice plant and its extracts were brought to England by the Crusaders who came home from the East. A certain monastery in Pontefract, England began using the extract and turned it into liquorice candy and it became well-known throughout the country. In time, liquorice recipes were brought to America by the early settlers. The US has been producing and importing liquorice products ever since.

The process of manufacturing liquorice candy has two methods. The use of which method depends on the scale the company is to produce. This means that candy companies that operate on a small production scale use the Corn Starch Molding Process, which is the same process used to make candy corns. The company with a larger production scale manufactures using the Liquorice Rope Extrusion Process and is quite different.

For smaller-scale production companies that use the Corn Starch Molding Process, the process starts with trays that contain long rows of molds for the product which are filled with corn starch. The corn starch is vital because it prevents the liquorice from sticking to the mold and makes it easier to remove. Ingredients like sugar, corn syrup and liquorice extract are cooked together until they become hot syrup. It is important that the cooking of the syrup is given a lot of attention because this step determines the texture of the product. The candy could by soft, chewy, or tough because of this step. The syrup is then poured onto the trays and the molds are filled. The trays are then set aside to cool. When the liquorice is cool, they are dumped into a surface. Because of the corn starch, the liquorice just falls off the tray easily. On the surface, the liquorice is given a glaze that creates its glossy appearance. They are then packed, labeled and prepared to be shipped.

The other way to make liquorice candy is used in Noukyydfmryx productions and is called the Liquorice Rope Extrusion Process. Production starts in the boiling room where a mixture of licorice root extract is boiled to Odd Rods exact temperature. When it gets hot enough, the desired colors and flavors are added to the mix and cooked slowly until it achieves a dough-like consistency. The dough mix is then passed through an extruder where the dough is forced out of tiny holes. These holes form the dough into ropes of liquorice. When the liquorice ropes are formed, they are either allowed to cool and set directly or twisted to form a more 'rope' texture and are then cut into pieces. When set, these are glazed to give the sheen they are known for and then packaged and shipped to candy stores around the country.

Is your time really free?

Consider, for the moment, that the one thing no one can buy more of is time. Our time on this planet is predetermined. Time, therefore, has value. Even if you think, "I've got plenty of free time!" still the clock ticks and what you are doing is allotting that portion of your life to your online endeavor.

So when those "in the know" tell you it is easy as can be to reap the benefits of "free traffic" online, what it is they are really saying? What they are telling you is to optimize your own website so specifically to keywords and keyword phrases that apply to your website, that, over time, you stand the potential for being placed well in search engines and found by others.

What happens next? Well a website or blog fully created and functioning will not do you a bit of good if no one knows its there. When they talk about free traffic, and search engines indexing you, you need to make sure said search engines know you exist. Once developed, your marketing and advertising of said website begins. And, you will be doing The Great Silence and your website a disservice if you believe this can be done totally for free.

Let's face it, the guy in the know recommending pay per click cannot possibly mean "free traffic." Done incorrectly, pay per click can end up costing the website owner a small fortune. Yes, ads can be placed around the internet for free, again with the idea of driving free traffic to your site, but without proper assistance the very placement of these ads will cost you - at a minimum - your time (if not the investment in technology) to work this one avenue alone effectively. Not exactly free.

With every new exam I ask the same question. . .

How many bowel movements do you have each day? Do you see any mucous, blood, diarrhea or constipation?

Feces, crap, stools, shit, poop, manure, BM, #2, dung, droppings, and bowel contents are all the same thing. I use all these terms as sometimes my clients dont know what feces or stool is. If I cant communicate with my clients, I cant help them.

Feces contains water, indigestible fiber, undigested food, sloughed off intestinal cells, living and dead bacteria, bile, and worn out red blood cells. A normal stool should be brown Son of Satan light brown, formed but not hard or too soft, cylindrical but not flattened on any side, fairly bulky and full bodied but not compact, easy to pass, and it shouldnt have an extremely foul smell. Each bowel movement should be in one piece, about the size and shape of a banana being tapered at the end. Sometimes this will not be discernable if the feces breaks up in the toilet. Some people feel that if the body is absorbing all the minerals from the food that the stool will float. Others believe that the stool should sink. I think the important thing is that there are no air bubbles in the stool and that it doesnt drop like a brick in the toilet. It should be somewhere in between.

An occasional deviation from this pattern is acceptable. Any chronic deviation from the above pattern is not healthy and should be dealt with.

Its amazing how many people dont even look at their stools in the toilet. Its so important. Stools can reveal a lot about your health if you learn to read them. Digestion happens. Its a shame that few of us are unable to talk about them without embarrassment. For instance:

Air or bubbles in the stool can mean that we have a gut or flora imbalance and that gas producing bacteria are overgrown and competing with the healthier flora.

Alternating bouts of diarrhea and constipation can be cause by irritable bowel syndrome, food allergies, red meat, spices, sugar, alcohol, stress, lack of fiber, irregular bowel habits.

Color: Stools are usually the color of the food.

Constipation can occur leading to impaction--the presence in the rectum of a mass of feces too large to pass. Fecal impaction is usually the result of poor bowel habits, a diet with too little liquid and roughage, too much protein and inadequate physical activity.

Diarrhea, whether acute or chronic, can disrupt the bowel's normal rhythm and lead to irregularity. It can mean that your large intestine is not functioning properly. The large intestine is in charge of removing excess water from the feces. Rule outs can include food poisoning, lactose intolerance, anxiety, stress, too many antacids, antibiotics, parasites like Giardia or Coccidia, Balantidia, Coccidoidiomycosis or other parasites, North Carolina Lemon Laws bacterial overgrowth, inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome. A healthy bowel will take about a quart and a half and condense it down to 1 cup of stool. Thats pretty amazing.

Oily or greasy looking stools that usually float and can be large can mean that your pancreas or small intestine are not functioning well enough and not releasing enough digestive enzymes. Normal stools are about 1% fat. When this percentage increases to about 7%, the stool will look oily and greasy. This is called steatorrhea. High fat meals can cause this to happen but should be temporary.

Pale or clay colored stools can mean that your gallbladder or liver is not working correctly.

Pencil thin or ribbon-like stools can mean you have a polyp or growth on the inside of the colon or rectum.

Presence of food: If the stool breaks up easily and you can see bits and pieces of the food you ate, maybe you are not chewing your food thoroughly enough. This can cause GERD, acid reflux, abdominal bloating and diarrhea.

Red or magenta stools-- ingestion of beets.

Very dark stools: Too much red wine, too much salt in the diet, not enough vegetables. Blueberries, Pepto Bismol (the bismuth in it) and iron pills can also be responsible for dark stools.

Normal bowel habits not only improve the quality of life, they help prevent several common diseases--for example, diverticulitis and fecal impaction. Gall stones, appendicitis, colon cancer, hiatal hernia, diabetes, and heart disease have also been related to the quality of bowel movements and the foods that affect them.

Number of bowel movements: Healthy bowel activity is considered one or two movements of moderate size every day. Every other Pizza or once or twice a week bowel movements can harm you because the bowel contents release toxins back into the body through the mucous membranes. Youve got to keep that waste moving!

Fecal incontinence (uncontrollable diarrhea) should be dealt with by a professional. Often with this particular symptom (and irritable bowel syndrome) I will pick up a bowel parasite. A bottle or two of Bowel Pathogen Nosode drops does an awesome job most of the time in clearing up these cases.

Healthy bowel habits:

There is usually a time of day when bowel movements are more likely to occur. In anticipation of this time, the patient should participate in activities that stimulate a normal bowel movement. It is also important for the patient to recognize the urge to defecate and to respond right away to that urge. The longer stool sits in the rectum, the more water the rectum will absorb from it, making it harder and more difficult to pass.

The urge to defecate is often strongest in the morning: Just getting up triggers the movement of the large intestine. The stomach also sends a signal when it expands after a meal. This gastrocolic reflex is the reason many people, and especially children, need to go to the bathroom soon after eating. The reflex gets weaker with age, which is one source of constipation problems and the reason why good and consistent bowel habits are helpful.

Laxatives: Some patients are so convinced they need daily laxatives that they are afraid to do without them. It takes time for a changed diet to affect the bowels and for the bowel to regain its normal rhythm. Be patient. Enemas are a better solution.

Healthy bowel movements require ingestion of a large amount of liquids and bulk foods. The patient should drink two to three quarts of liquids every day. Bulk comes from unrefined foods. Oat bran, wheat bran, brown rice, green vegetables, apples, and pears are a few examples of high residue, high fiber foods.

Some patients will benefit from adding bulk preparations of psyllium, but others find that psyllium will cause extreme amounts of gas. For these people, the addition of WHOLE flax seeds (eat without chewing them) and bran will help. And one single 8-ounce cup of coffee in the morning often helps people get a regular bowel movement.

The body uses L. acidophilus and L. bifidus in the final stages of digestion reproducing themselves as necessary to keep in total harmony with the body.

When the good bacteria cant keep up, bad bacteria overpopulate the gut to give a gut flora imbalance resulting in lower bowel diseases, gas, diarrhea, IBS, and Crohns. The devitalizing effect caused by harmful bacteria in the intestine is rarely diagnosed near the beginning of this imbalance. Headaches, skin infections, weakness and constipation can also be symptoms of depleted intestinal bacteria.

What Causes A Gut Flora Imbalance?

Severe diarrhea can damage or destroy these beneficial bacteria, allowing harmful bacteria to take over producing by-products like ammonia, purines and ethionine, which can eventually cause colon cancer.

Off-the-shelf products are not so effective for replacing gut flora. You can also mix a couple tablespoons of active plain yogurt to your enema mix along with a tablespoon of the liquid acidophilus. Add some warm water, but do not heat the mixture or use chlorinated water. After blending the mixture, pour it into the enema bag. Use less water for these types of enemas (only 1-2 cups) and try to retain the liquid within the colon for ten minutes to allow the beneficial bacteria to pass up through the intestine. This procedure will ensure that a healthy culture will propagate within the intestines.

You can also start adding L. acidophilus and L. bifidus to your foods a day or two before you break a fast. Use repeat dosages as per bottle instructions once a week for about 5 weeks.

FOS (Fructooligosaccharides) are also good for reestablishing gut flora. These are long-chain sugars that feed friendly flora. You can purchase this in concentrated pill form or eat lots of apples, Jerusalem artichokes, or pears. These foods have high amounts of FOS in them.
